Ecclesiastes Evening Bible Study

22/6/2017

And so as we near the end of our study of Hebrews we turn back in time to consider Ecclesiastes, likely the work of Solomon, king of Israel 970 BC. Ecclesiastes is a book of perspective. The narrative of “the Preacher” reveals the depression that inevitably results from seeking happiness in worldly things. This book gives us a chance to see the world through the eyes of a person who, though very wise, is trying to find meaning in temporary things. Most every form of worldly pleasure is explored by the Preacher, and none of it gives him a sense of meaning.

In the end, the Preacher comes to accept that faith in God is the only way to find personal meaning. He decides to accept the fact that life is brief and ultimately worthless without God. The Preacher advises the reader to focus on an eternal God instead of temporary pleasure.

Though the book of Revelation appears last in our Bibles, it is sadly first in being the most abused book in that divine library. It is often loved for all the wrong reasons, with readers divided between those who never bother to venture into the book and those who never care to get out of it. Yet it remains a very important book for the church today and God has placed it in our personal Bibles in order to be read, understood and obeyed.

You are invited to our Saturday Seminar, open for anyone who wants to get to grips with the meaning of this book given to the church in the first century. The format will include both individual presentations and discussion. Speakers: Dr Paul Hartwig (host) with Bradley Trout (pastor), Dr Gideon Beukes (lecturer) and Pieter Pienaar (pastor).

When / Where:
31st Jan 2015 at Strand Baptist, 121 Church Street Strand, 09:30am-16:30pm.
